I WISH ANIMALS COULD BE TREATED BETTER
□ Wang Fanqi
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. My speech topic today is I WISH ANIMALS COULD BE
TREATED BETTER. And this is the first time I have been here in Shenzhen. It’s a
beautiful city with so many pleasant scenic ports, espe-cially the Safari Park Shenzhen I
went yesterday. There are so many kinds of lovely animals that I was deeply attracted.
But have you ever imag-ined that they’ll never be seen again in hun-dreds of years, in
decades of years, or just in several years?
Countless kinds of mammals, fishes, birds and insects have been extinct so far .What
wor-ries us most is that one third of them have dis-appeared in the past fifty years.
How do you feel this, guilty, regretful, or nothing at all? At least I feel torn up
when I hear that many animals are treated cruelly.
It’s reported that in order to get an entire fur, some workers nail the beavers up
to a flat board just like making specimens in the lab and then tear the shining fur from
the poor beavers. How miserable they are after losing their fur! They’ll die from the
sharp pains! But in the people’s eyes they see nothing but the money.
In my hometown, there are some traditional Chinese dishes made with animals. People
flock in to eat the famous dishes. But have you ever thought about the poor animals while
eating the delicious meals? For example, a cook digs a hole in a monkey’s head and then
takes the brains out as the ingredients. When I think about it, I get sick. Animals are
friends of us, and is this the proper way to treat our friends? Of course not!
Plants, animals and humans make up the food chain together. We rely on each other.
That’s to say, the other two will be influenced badly if one side disappears. Humans
will be ex-tinct as well in the end if we don’t take any steps to save and help our
animal friends. Ani-mals should be treated better!
How I wish never to see a pretty lady dressed in a fur coat! How I wish never to see
dishes made with animals on the table! And how I wish to see a big and harmonious world
like a happy family!
    Thanks very much.
